[158] Lydia's age of 7 in the Census in 1881 prior to her marriage to Tom indicates she was born earlier than their 1901 Census entry indicates, where she was said to be 22. Certainly a record of a birth of Lydia Garrett in March 1/4 1874 in Southam Registration District suggests that was the case. So possibly she was the widowed Lydia Outram born 14 Jan 1874 living at 74 Clarendon Crescent, Paddington in 1939, with a son Thomas b. 30 Jan 1922, a Railway Porter. The fly in the ointment to identifying her conclusively is a birth registration of Thomas V. Outram in March 1/4 1923, which indicates his mother's maiden surname was Outram, which is curious to say the least. A corresponding death registration in 1983 indicates "V" stood for Victor, possibly adding weight to the fact she was Tom Outram's widow, since their first child, who died in WWI, was also named "Victor", so I'm assuming for the time being they were one and the same. [2] As no baptism for Benjamin has been found, it is tempting to suggest which family, of several living living in Derbyshire at the time, he may have belonged to. George Goddard and Christian were living in nearby Grindleford Bridge, and both were buried at Stoney Middleton, so surely they were his most probable parents. I have found no evidence to suggest, as others have, that he came from as far afield as Chinley, as would be the case if he were the son of Joseph Goddard and Charity Chadwick.
